Optical Engineer - Free Form Optics
NOTE Gixel GmbH and Viaholo GmbH work together as a research cooperation on the future of communication. Viaholo is a 100% subsidiary of Sprin-D, and thus of the Federal Republic of Germany.
At Gixel our goal is to explore, innovate and design a novel next generation augmented reality experience. We are looking for skilled and motivated Optical Engineers to join our Optics team in Karlsruhe. Based on your expertise and your passion, you may work on one or more areas from the following: viewing optics, optical systems, display optics, optical characterisation and optical fabrication processes. You will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers on the end-to-end product development cycle including concept, design, development, and integration of those optical components or systems. You will also work cross functionally to develop specifications and test methods, perform performance evaluation and work closely with manufacturing partners for prototyping and mass production.
Optical Engineer - Free Form Optics Responsibilities
- Define and design optical components for next generation AR experience
- Establish engineering specifications, including key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components
- Work with diverse and highly interdisciplinary team members, e.g. optical design & simulation, mechanical engineering and design, to develop and mature new technologies for the viewing optics
- Evaluate and Prototype in the Lab and manage the supplier selection and communication
- Lead the development to scale up for high volume manufacturing
Minimum Qualifications
- Master degree in optical engineering, Photonics, Physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent work experience
- Experience in Zemax
- Passion for optical design and the drive to solve tough problems
- Experienced in Software development (Python, Matlab or C++)
- Working in Karlsruhe
Preferred Qualifications
- Software developing experience
- Experience in technology transfer of free-form optics from R&D to high volume production
- Experience in optical system for the human eye (VR or AR systems)
- Tolerance analysis
- Strayhlight analysis
- Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optics
