Call for applications for a position as
Research Assistant in the field of
Sustainable Energy Planning for West Africa

Our Profile:

The Energy Management in Developing Countries research unit is affiliated with the
Chair of Management Accounting and is part of the School of Business and Economics
at RWTH Aachen University. The focus of our work is transformation research, which
actively contributes to social change processes toward sustainability in the energy
sector.
In teaching, we are responsible for various courses in the fields of sustainable energy
systems and development economics using innovative teaching concepts. In addition to
high-level research projects, our institution is characterized by a motivated team and a
family-friendly environment.

Your Profile:


• University degree (Master’s or comparable) in economics, engineering, or
mathematics with a good grade (2.0) or better


• Previous professional experience


• Strong interest in interdisciplinary research on planning and modeling of
sustainable energy systems as well as on a just energy transition in developing
countries


• Good knowledge of energy technologies and economics


• Programming skills, ideally in Python


• Strong interest in university teaching (incl. innovative teaching formats)


• Good analytical and organizational skills


• Individual communication skills and ability to work in a team


• Independent and structured way of working


• Good written and spoken English (German would be an advantage)

Your Tasks:


• Participation in high-level research of the research unit Energy Management in Developing Countries and
the Chair of Controlling as well as in corresponding publications of the chair


• Participation in project work in a highly motivated team


• Participation in the implementation and organization of courses and supervision of bachelor's, master's, and
student research projects

Our Offer:

The position will be filled based on an employment contract. The position is to be filled as of 15.02.2023 and is
initially limited until 31.12.2025. An extension is envisaged. This is a full-time position. The position is valued at
pay group 13 TV-L. The possibility of doctoral studies and further scientific qualification is offered.
